Rob Zombie: Bringing Back Horrorby Peter D Rob Zombie, formerly of the band White Zombie, made his directorial debut with the 2003 horror film House of 1000 Corpses. House, also written by Zombie, followed the horror faced by two couples when they run into a demented family named Firefly. While the film did not receive any major critical acclaim, it was a welcome addition to the horror genre and quickly put Rob Zombie on the map as an up and coming director. His follow-up film released in 2005 and entitled The Devil's Rejects (also written by Zombie) brought back the Firefly family who now became the hunted when a rogue sheriff is willing to break all laws in order to bring this demented clan to justice. Rejects proved that Zombie's first outing was no fluke and that he has the ability to revive the long faltering horror genre. In 2007 Zombie returned with a re-imagining/re-make of John Carpenter's classic film Halloween. Even with Zombie's success in the horror genre, taking on one of the greatest horror movies of all time is a daunting task, and could leave horror fans angered. Whether you enjoyed Zombie's Halloween or thought it was a bomb it is hard to deny that Rob Zombie is a talented filmmaker and will probably remain a rising star in the horror genre. |
