The boys of South Park get the Hollywood treatment they deserve in South Park - Bigger, Longer & Uncut. It is the first time that the boys, no strangers to cursing, are able to speak freely and not worry about the censors. After watching the first ten minutes of the movie it was obvious that the creators were not going to hold anything back, which was a complaint from some fans about Beavis & Butt-Head Do America, which seemed to be somewhat sanitized in order to achieve the more commercially successful PG-13 rating from the Motion Pictures Association of America. And while some may say that South Park - Bigger, Longer & Uncut overdid it with excessive profanity, no one can deny that fans of this series will be laughing all the way through this full-length feature film (which is also a musical!).

South Park - Bigger, Longer & Uncut has the boys attending the debut of the new Terrance and Phillip movie. It is there where the boys, especially Cartman, extend their vocabulary to include words that will make parents cringe. Soon the boys's parents, along with the other parents of South Park, are outraged by these crude Canadian actors. It is not long before the parents of South Park, lead by Sheila Broflovski, take action by kidnapping Terrance and Phillip and making them stand trial for their "crime". Pretty soon all hell breaks loose as war between the United States and Canada seems imminent and Satan hopes that this is a sign of his coming reign over the world.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone do not let their fans down with a hilarious movie that serves the franchise well. Cartman is especially funny as you can hear him as crude he will ever be without the interference of network censors. Not only will this movie leave you wanting more South Park but it will also leave a few catchy songs in your head that you would never dare sing in public. This movie is definitely not for those who object to extremely crude language.

Video Quality

Presented in widescreen, which has been enhanced for 16x9 televisions, the picture quality is good. Let's be honest, anyone who's seen South Park animation knows that it is pretty simplistic (even Cartman jokes about it in the movie when he says that the animation of the Terrance and Phillip is "crappy"). The colors are good, even though they are the most basic of colors. The DVD is pretty much free from pixelation or other digital artifacts.

Audio Quality

This DVD contains three audio tracks, an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track, an English Dolby Surround track and a French Dolby Surround track. The 5.1 track is very good and provides clear audio with the voices at an appropriate level, especially during musical numbers. I would be lying if I said that you aren't missing much without the 5.1 track because there's a noticeable difference during the musical numbers. The English Surround Sound track is also very good with good voice levels but I would not say that it is on par with the 5.1 track, nor should anyone expect it to be. Also included with this DVD are English Subtitles.

Special Features

Included on this DVD are three trailers, two theatrical trailers and a teaser trailer. While trailers are a nice addition to any DVD it should not be the only addition and this DVD could have benefited from any number of types of special features, such as a commentary or making-of featurette.

Summary

South Park has become one of the most popular animated shows on television, keeping its audience entertained with crude and often hysterical humor. South Park - Bigger, Longer & Uncut is no different except for the fact that it takes those characteristics of the series and pushes them to the extreme. While the DVD is not a special edition it is certainly worth owning if you are a fan of the series or just enjoy crude humor.
